Welcome to Bartlett, Illinois
Bartlett has a very interesting history. Originally hunting grounds for local Indian tribes, Bartlett lies in a woodlands area about thirty five miles west of the bottom portion of Lake Michigan. The major catalyst for Bartlett's growth occurred when Luther Bartlett donated twenty acres of his farmland to the Chicago and Pacific Railroad for a train station. The town was given Bartlett's name because of this, and the station attracted businesses, making the village a success. Bartlett's population is just over 40,000 based on the census of 2010. Bartlett wasn't always a large village. Expansion had been vigorously opposed. The Encyclopedia of Chicago states that when a company had planned to develop 540 acres of land in the 1970s, they backed out because of opposition to the project. With only 716 residents in the 1950s to over forty thousand today, Bartlett has seen some development.
With Bartlett's continued expansion, there is opportunity for excitement, exploration, and a good time on the town. For excitement, there is Haunted Hometowns Ghost Tours in Elgin, just six miles from Clare Oaks Retirement Community, where you can hunt ghosts and hear spooky stories from ghost hunters. Or try an escape room event if you like solving mysteries and puzzles. You enter an escape room and are locked in with five other friends for an hour and use your wit, imagination, and cleverness to find the clues to "escape." These rooms are becoming more popular as an alternative to dinner and a movie. There are several near Clare Oaks: one in Glen Ellyn, St. Charles, and Lisle.
For exploration the 100-year-old Elgin Public Museum of Natural History and Anthropology is a wonderful indoor and outdoor adventure. It is in Lords Park, a 108-acre destination facility with a zoo, golf course, aquatic center, picnic shelters and much more. Bartlett is home to over a dozen parks managed by the Bartlett Park District: Bartlett Skate Park, Blue Heron Park, Bartlett Nature Center to name a few. The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, just minutes away, is a traditional Hindu place of worship. The Mandir is an awe inspiring feat of architecture and beauty made with 1,000,000 square feet of limestone, granite, and marble, with acres of lovely landscape and fountains, and the Haveli's outstanding woodwork.
For a night (or afternoon) on the town, visit Arts in Bartlett Center for the Arts. Located in the Town Center, Arts in Bartlett brings diverse events to the Bartlett area, like the Chicago Sax Quartet concert in April. Exhibits like "Flowers with Attitude," "Seeing Stripes," and "The Art of the Quilt," make the art center a popular destination. New jewelry from Vivianna Bermudez just arrived, and there are watercolor classes by Jenny Vogt coming in May. Get entertained while you eat at a local steak, seafood, and sushi restaurant. Watch a chef cook right in front of you on a hibachi grill with fire burning high and knives flashing. If you want Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, French, Italian, or American tavern food, Bartlett has it all, just minutes from Clare Oaks Retirement Community.
Don't forget that the Metra is a stone's throw from Clare Oaks to get to downtown Chicago for many sightseeing, sporting, and cultural events. Some of the sights to see include scenic river tours on the historic Chicago River, 360 Chicago on the 94th floor of the John Hancock Center, or the Adler Planetarium to name just a few. For sporting excitement watch the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs, the Blackhawks, or the Bulls. There are plenty of cultural sights too: the Art Institute of Chicago, the Field Museum of Natural History, the John G. Shedd Aquarium, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera, and the Goodman Theater.
There is so much to see and do around Bartlett. It is a wonderful place to live. Come out to Clare Oaks Retirement Community for a scheduled tour of the community to see what excitement Bartlett and Chicago have to offer active senior living. Call 630-372-1946 to schedule your visit.
